Low price for big onion poses great difficulty for farmers

At the request of big onion growers in the Dambulla region, State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon is intervening to get them a good price for their harvest. Although farmers in Dambulla and Laggala have been cultivating big onions successfully for many years, they decided not to do so due to the fall in prices, and as a result, the price of big onions in the market has increased, burdening the consumer. As a solution, the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry has encouraged big onion growers to resume cultivation.

Accordingly, arrangements have been made to grow big onions on a large amount of farmland. But currently the price of big onions in the market is very low. As a result, State Minister Tennakoon, who understands the difficulties faced by the farmers, has decided to intervene to solve this problem as a Member of Parliament from the Matale district, and he will take the matter up with the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry.
