Nine education units to balance teacher-student ratio

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that it is expected to balance teachers at the provincial and educational zone level in the future.

The Minister said that the teacher-student ratio is a very important factor for the implementation of education reforms, and for that, it has been planned to balance teachers at the provincial and educational zone levels.

Accordingly, it is expected to establish nine education units related to the nine provinces and to increase the existing hundred education zones to 120 for easy administration.

It is also proposed to convert the existing education divisions into ‘education boards’ and increase them to 350. It has also been suggested that all 10,096 schools should be consolidated into 1,200 clusters. The Minister said that by establishing a leading school in every cluster and creating at least two leading schools with all the resources in a cluster, true free education will be practically implemented.
