COPA evaluates poor management in Co-operative Societies, Western Province Passenger Transport Authority
The attention of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) was drawn to the crisis situation that has arisen due to the issuance of loans by Co-operative Societies without proper mechanism as a result of the weak regulation of the Western Province Co-operative Development Department. The Committee pointed out that a huge tragedy based on this matter has already occurred in the Co-operative network. Hence, the Committee pointed out that the Western Province Co-operative Development Department should act with responsibility in the future and it is important to take a general policy decision in this regard.
This was discussed when the COPA met in Parliament recently under the Chairmanship of State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna. COPA has focused on the current performance of the Western Provincial Department of Co-operative Development.
