A miracle to have over 50,000 dansals in a country declared bankrupt – Minister
“It is a miracle that more than 50,000 dansals are held on Poson Full Moon Day in a country which was declared economically bankrupt two years ago”, Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
Amaraweera expressed these views while participating in the exposition of the sacred relics at the Sambuddhaloka Pozon Zone at the Beliatta Siri Sunandarama Purana Viharaya, which is being organized for the third time by the Amaraviru Foundation.
The Sambuddhaloka poson zone started yesterday afternoon and the it consists of a number of events including exposition of relics, Poson Thorana, Bakthi Geee recitals and Lantern Competitions and Dansals also held in Sambuddhaloka poson zone. The Minister made his comments after inaugurating the exhibition of the sacred relics.
“According to the reports published in the media today, the number of registered dansals is 4,600. But according to the reports we have, more than 50,000 dansals are held in the country today. There are different types of dansals as well as rice dansals. It is not only the poor people who eat food in these dansals. Many well-to-do people also like to eat in dansals.
“I think it is a miracle to have more than 50,000 dansals in a country that was unheard of even two years ago. And today the highways are full of vehicles. People visit temples to worship the Buddha. The steps taken by the government to change a country that was unable to find fuel for a vehicle two years ago should be appreciated.
“This morning I went to a dansal in Weerakatiya. The temple was given to distribute dry rations to poor families. It was organized by the businessmen. A large number of dansals held today are given by business establishments. The minister also mentioned that an era in which the hands of those businessmen are rich has dawned today.
