Schools resume after two days with high teacher-student attendance

The Education Ministry announced that schools resumed normal operations yesterday (28)following the conclusion of the teacher-principal strike as the teachers and students returned to their respective schools as usual.

Despite the recent trade union action by teacher-principal unions, reports indicated that students and teachers at some schools continued to attend classes.In the North Western Province alone, the teacher attendance rate was significantly high on the 28. Overall, the province reported a teacher attendance rate of 86.97% and a student attendance rate of 67.18%.

The North Western Province consists of eight educational zones. The Puttalam Zone reported an 84.33% teacher attendance rate and a 66.77% student attendance rate. In the Chillaw Zone, the rates were 81.61% for teachers and 61.77% for students.

The Maho Zone saw an 89.02% teacher attendance rate and a 74.61% student attendance rate.The Nikaweratiya Zone reported a 95.61% teacher attendance rate and a 70.20% student attendance rate.

Additionally, in the Kurunegala Zone, the teacher attendance rate was 88.00%, while the student attendance rate was 65.00%. The Kuliyapitiya Zone saw a 94.09% teacher attendance rate and a 74.62% student attendance rate. In the Ibbagamuwa Zone, the teacher attendance rate was 87.47% and the student attendance rate was 77.01%. The Giriulla Zone reported an 86.60% teacher attendance rate and a 64.81% student attendance rate.
