Doctors remove 15 kg tumour from woman’s abdomen in Hambantota

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Hambantota General Hospital Dr. Samantha Samarawickrama, who performed the surgery said that a 15 kg tumour was successfully removed from the uterus of a mother whose stomach was the size of five twins.

A 38-year-old mother living in Weeraketiya area was operated yesterday morning (3).

Doctors who performed the surgery say that the mother is currently in good health.

She had been treated by various doctors as her abdomen had been gradually swelling over the years. Hambantota came to the hospital and met with the obstetrician and gynecologist due to the fact that the abdomen protruded so much that it could not be supported. Specialist Dr. Samantha Samarawickrama said that her medical condition was properly diagnosed and the operation was performed promptly.

Dr. Samarawickrama requested all mothers to get checked by a specialist doctor if they experience any pains in the abdomen.
