State Defence Minister Premithe Bandara Tennakoon was the chief guest at the first ever National Cadet Corps National Youth (NCCNY) Heroes Award ceremony to felicitate two young heroes, Charithma Jinendri and Sasindu Nimsara at the National Cadet Corps Headquarters in Colombo yesterday (Jul 17).
Charithma Jinendri, a 17 – year – old student from Padukka saved two people trapped inside their house during the recent floods. Sasindu Nimsara, 15 – year – old student braved his life to save a four year old child who had fallen into a 36-foot well in Kiula in Puttalam.
This Award Ceremony was organised for the first time ever on a visionary concept of State Minister Tennakoon in order to recognise and promote the young heroes of Sri Lanka. In the future the award will be given recognising exceptional accomplishments of youth in multiple fields.
NCC Director Brigadier Sudantha Fonseka and DIG Senevirathne representing the Police was also present at the awards ceremony.
