Water, Electricity bills decreased due to laws passed in Parliament- Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ajith Rajapakse, addressing the “Dakshina Jana Mehewara” Mobile Service held at the Tissamaharama Debarawewa Janadipati Vidyalaya, stated that Water and Electricity prices have reduced, providing economic relief to the public, because the necessary laws were passed in Parliament.
He further said that, “To date, approximately 151 laws have been passed, with several more set to be presented to Parliament. However, some people opposed these decisions when they were passed in Parliament. At that time some trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board did subversive work, including forcibly opening the sluice gates of the Kothmale reservoir. Despite the challenges, the country managed to recover from its troubled state, due to the implementation of the right decisions”.
A large number of people took part in this Mobile Service, with many issues raised by the public resolved through the solutions provided.
The specialty of this Mobile Service is offering various services in one place, such as issuing of land licenses, providing wheel-chairs and crutches to disabled individuals, distribution of school equipment sets to students, and active loans extended to Vanita Samiti members.
In addition, free eye examinations and spectacles were provided for low-income people, while the services of all government institutions operated by the Provincial Council were also made available.
Southern Province Governor Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mahinda Amaraweera, and relevant government officials took part in this initiative.
