Establishment of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and the donation of a C-arm X-ray machine worth Rs 50 million, which is used to take images of the Spine, Bones and Soft Tissue, was held yesterday under the patronage of Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.
Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana also conducted an inspection tour of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, which included the Out-Patient Department, Clinics, Wards, Eye Unit, Kitchen, Laboratory, Drug Stores, Operating Theaters, Emergency Treatment Units, and Special Units. The Minister said this special inspection was made to provide quality and efficient Health services to the people of this province, by identifying shortcomings within the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, which is the main hospital providing Health services to the people of all the Districts inthe Northern Province. He said that in the coming year, construction of treatment units and buildings of Jaffna Teaching Hospital will be carried out based on the Budget allocation with Rs 500 million allocated for this purpose.
The Minister further said that he had directed the officers in charge to provide the optimum Human Resources required for the hospital from the trained groups.
Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Jaffna Teaching Hospital Director Dr. T. Satyamurthy and the hospital staff also participated on this occasion.
