Govt. plea apology for COVID-19 compulsory cremation policy

Cabinet of Ministers has granted their consent to the joint proposal forwarded by the Ministers of Justice, Prison affairs and Constitution Reforms, Foreign affairs and Water Supply and Estate infrastructure Development to plea the apology on behalf of the Government, from all the communities affected as a consequence of compulsory cremation policy enacted in Sri Lanka during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

The Cabinet of Ministers has also approved another joint proposal presented by the Minister of Justice, Prison affairs and Constitution Reforms, Minister of Foreign affairs to instruct legal Draftsmen to prepare a draft for the introduction of new law on burial or cremation of dead bodies on religious discretion.
