People’s Bank renovates Cardiothoracic Pediatric Ward at NHSL
People’s Bank has announced the completion and opening of the newly renovated Cardiothoracic Pediatric Ward (Ward 1) at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), Colombo.
This major refurbishment, costing over Rs. 8,000,000, was a key initiative under the bank’s CSR brand ‘Mahajana Mehewara’. The event marked a significant milestone in the bank’s ongoing efforts to support and enhance the healthcare sector in Sri Lanka.
The inauguration ceremony of the newly renovated Cardiothoracic Pediatric Ward was held on July 19, in the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of Ministry of Health, Sujeewa Rajapakse, Chairman of People’s Bank, Clive Fonseka, CEO/GM of People’s Bank, Corporate and Executive Management members of People’s Bank, Dr. Kumara Wickramasingha, Deputy Director General Health Services of NHSL, Deputy Directors, Dr. M.N. Jazeel, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and healthcare professionals from NHSL and key stakeholders.
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit V is instrumental in providing critical healthcare services, including complex procedures such as bypass, valvular and vascular surgeries. With increasing demand for these specialized services, it was essential that the facilities were equipped to offer exemplary patient care. Relocating Unit V to the Cardiothoracic Pediatric Ward is a strategic move to accommodate this growing demand.
People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapaksestated; “Through our CSR brand ‘Mahajana Mehewara,’ we are honoured to support the National Hospital of Sri Lanka with this important renovation project. Our commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure is unwavering, and we believe this upgraded ward will significantly improve patient care and outcomes.”
Appreciating the bank’s commitment to uplift the community through this CSR initiative, Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of Ministry of Health said; “While the Sri Lankan health care is providing an invaluable service to the nation, it requires the support of entities such as People’s Bank to provide the resources required to maintain a quality service.”
NHSL Deputy Director General Health Services Dr. Kumara Wickramasingha stated: “The refurbished Cardiothoracic Pediatric Ward will greatly enhance our ability to provide high-quality care to our patients.
