Sri Lanka attracts 187,810 tourist arrivals in July
Sri Lanka attracted 187,810 tourist arrivals for July 2024 recording the best figure after a layoff of three months. This is a 13.3% increase as against the 2023 July figure which was 143,039.
The total arrivals from January to 31 July 2024 stood at 1,198,059 and in July 2024 Sri Lanka is now averaging around 5,000 plus visitors per day. Bolted by the India-Sri Lanka cricket series good connections and free visas India was the top source destination for the past five months amounting to 41,173 and took 22.9% of the total market share.
The United Kingdom was second (20,837 11.1%). China is showing, bouncing back and moving up to the third slot with 13,040 (6.9%) arrivals. The top five source markets from January to July 31, 2024, were 1. India (225,641) 2. Russian Federation (118,682) 3. United Kingdom (110,189) 4. Germany 80,688) and 5. China (76,856).
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has received USD 1,556 billion in receipts for tourism from January to July end. This is an increase of 77.9% achieved in 2023 (876 million) during the corresponding period. For June 2024 Sri Lanka has earned USD 151.1 million.
