Bangladesh desperately seeking a leader like President Ranil – Minister Pavithra
Irrigation, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday said that Bangladesh is desperately seeking a leader like President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
She said that Bangladesh activists have burned and destroyed tourist hotels and government institution turning the entire country into a fiery wreck.
“Fortunately, our nation did not descend into such chaos because we had a leader like President Wickremesinghe,” she said. Wanniarachchi added that President Wickremesinghe succeeded in restoring order and stability in the country without any bloodshed when the former leader fled the country.
She made these remarks while addressing a women’s conference at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in Colombo, themed “Kantha Ape Balaya (Women’s Power) yesterday morning (9). “In Bangladesh, protesters have occupied the official residence of the head of state and even the parliament. More than 20 MPs have been killed.
Watching these events unfold on television reminds us of what happened in our own country not long ago,” she said.
The Minister said that the she has set aside party affiliation and come together as one family to ensure the victory of the President at the forthcoming Presidential election.
“As women who make sound decisions for our motherland, we have set aside our party affiliations and come together as one family to ensure his victory”, she added.
Today’s gathering is truly remarkable. While I have attended many women’s conferences over my 32 years in politics, this is the first time I’ve participated in a multi-party women’s
conference. Why have we come together today? The answer is clear, and it requires no lengthy discussions or debates. Just look at the current situation in Bangladesh and you’ll understand why we’ve united”.
