Ranil Wickremesinghe only leader who can take the Nation on the path to progress

The SLFP Colombo District Organiser and Central Committee member Fawzan Anwer, while identifying the upcoming Presidential Election as a crucial moment in the country’s history, said that, while setting Party politics aside, everyone should support the victory of the incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe this time, as he is the only leader among current political leaders in the country who can take the Nation on the path to progress.

Speaking to Journalists, Anwer said, while a President who got a massive mandate in the last election with over 6 million votes ran away, and an Opposition Leader who got over 5 million votes declined responsibility, a man whose party had a solitary seat in Parliament, came forward and accepted responsibility during an unprecedented crisis and, in a short span of two years, had re-established stability.

He said the gains in the past two years must continue and President Wickremesinghe should be given another term to achieve greater socio-economic progress.

Anwer said that the President had good international recognition and this had helped him garner support from powerful countries and international lending organisations to revive Sri Lanka’s crisis-hit economy.

“This election is not about Party politics. It’s time to think and vote for the greater good of the Nation. This is why we need to back the President, who has come forward as an Independent candidate. For Parliamentary elections we can get back to doing Party politics”.

Pointing out to the calamity in Bangladesh, Anwer said Sri Lanka cannot afford to have another crisis and added that, the best person who can avoid that was the current President.
