President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that, for the first time in history, residents of line rooms will be granted the right to live in villages, with the government reclaiming land from plantation companies by canceling the lease agreements.

Addressing the Nuwara Eliya district business community during a meeting on Saturday (10), the President emphasized that the government will grant land rights to these individuals, assist them in building homes, and manage public areas like playgrounds.

During the meeting, President Ranil Wickremesinghe was briefed on the challenges facing local businesses and reviewed various proposals for regional development.

Nuwara Eliya district business community expressed their fullest support for President Wickremesinghe, endorsing his efforts to steer the country out of the economic crisis and pledging their backing in the upcoming Presidential Election.

The meeting was attended by notable figures, including former MP and United National Party (UNP) electorate organiser of Maskeliya K.K.Piyadasa, former Provincial Council Member W.G. Ranasinghe, former Mayor of the Hatton Dickoya Urban Council Sadayan Balachandran and Secretary of the Hatton Trade Association Secretary S. Somasundaram.

On the same day, President Ranil Wickremesinghe also met with scholars and professionals from the Nuwara Eliya district.

During the meeting, experts emphasised the importance of sustaining the country’s economic recovery and highlighted the need to support President Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential election to ensure his victory. They stressed that it is the responsibility of everyone who loves the country.

Addressing the gathering, President Wickremesinghe announced that a conference will be organised in January or February next year to address social justice issues for the Tamil communities in the hill country. He also noted that the forthcoming Social Justice Commission will conduct a thorough investigation into the social issues faced by the Tamil people in the hill country.

During the meeting, school principals and professionals from the Nuwara Eliya district presented their issues and proposals to President Wickremesinghe.

MP and Senior Advisor to the President Vadivel Suresh also spoke, highlighting President Wickremesinghe’s significant contributions to the plantation community and reaffirming his dedication to securing their rights.

Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya District Hindu Priest Committee, Rev.Velu Suviswara Sharma, and a group of distinguished professionals attended the meeting.
