Focus on implementing strategic frameworks rather than resorting to deceptive tactics – Presidential candidate Dilith Jayaweera
Presidential candidate Dilith Jayaweera, leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP) and the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ Alliance, has proposed the establishment of an authority for national strategic framework planning under his Alliance’s strategic framework. He further expressed confidence that his proposal can achieve national priorities and objectives within a specific period.
At a gathering of intellectuals and entrepreneurs at the MJP Headquarters in Colombo, Jayaweera further emphasised, “Sajith Premadasa, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and Namal Rajapaksa are all competing in the upcoming election, and all of them have previously held Cabinet positions.”
Jayaweera also pointed out that Anura Kumara wielded significant influence as the Agriculture Minister compared to his predecessors in that role, and Namal Rajapaksa held five ministerial portfolios. These same individuals are now advocating for changes in the country, but Jayaweera accused Anura Kumara of being a major fraudster, asserting that he indirectly supported previous governments and directly served in two.
Furthermore, Jayaweera suggested that the Proportional Representation system has contributed to the proliferation of corruption in the country. He questioned whether the candidates have put forth any proposals to reform the corrupt political system, emphasising that they are all part of that very system. In addition, the MJP Leader stated, “Ranil Wickremesinghe, symbolised by a gas cylinder, is using fear tactics to gain votes by warning about potential future gas shortages. Wickremesinghe is backed by those who were responsible for past gas shortages.”
Jayaweera criticised Sajith Premadasa for not providing a clear plan to reform the Education system despite mentioning several proposals. He also questioned Anura Kumara’s pledge to reduce fuel prices and VAT on stationery items, suggesting that these are not sufficient reasons to elect a President.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of establishing a central authority for national strategic planning. This, he argued, would ensure that government ministers adhere to national priorities and objectives. He urged Presidential candidates to focus on implementing strategic frameworks rather than resorting to deceptive tactics.
