President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s policies beginning to show positive results – State Minister Finance Shehan Semasinghe
President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s policies, designed to stabilise the country and drive economic growth, are now beginning to show positive results, despite the initial challenges, said State Minister for Finance, Shehan Semasinghe.
He further said: “In contrast, the NPP and the SJB, who previously demonstrated their inability to manage the economy, are now making promises ahead of the elections. These include reducing direct taxation, removing VAT, and lowering fuel prices—the same measures that led to the economic collapse they once criticised. It has become clear that any candidate other than Ranil Wickremesinghe would risk plunging the nation back into a crisis, with 22 million citizens facing long queues, rationed food, and power outages. However, we have already announced that the benefits of economic growth will be passed on to the general masses. As a result, wages and allowances of public service employees will increase by approximately Rs. 25,000 per month, with a minimum salary increase of around 24%, which will be included in the next Budget. Additionally, we have already submitted our proposal to reduce income tax, ensuring that the public shares in the country’s prosperity. All these adjustments will be made without any negative impact on the economy, ensuring sustainable growth for all”.
