All School Principals and heads of Government firms of both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province have been instructed in a circular that the spread of dengue fever is on the increase. They have been informed to take all possible measures to control the spread of the disease.
The Health Ministry has confirmed that 16 deaths of dengue have occurred countrywide this year and about 35,051 positive dengue patients have been reported across the country. Among these patients, about 2,230 are reported to be schoolchildren.
During this month about 2,306 positive dengue patients have been detected countrywide.
Colombo and some MOH divisions of the Gampaha, Rathnapura, Kandy and Kurunegala Districts have been identified as high risk zones.
NWP Assistant Provincial Director of Health Services Dr. J. Kamalasiri said that most school premises within the NWP have been found to be with mosquito-breeding grounds.
