Seventeen former Kurunegala SLPP PS members pledge support to President

Seventeen members of the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha, who were previously aligned with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), have decided to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming Presidential Election.

These council members met former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Presidential Advisor, to confirm their backing for President Wickremesinghe.

During their meeting with Kariyawasam, the council members discussed the current political landscape at length. They expressed their belief that President Wickremesinghe has effectively managed the political and economic crises that the country faced, gaining the support of the majority of the population. The members emphasised that their decision was made to ensure the continued stability of the political and economic environment established under President Wickremesinghe’s leadership.
