Matara District MP Karunadasa Kodithuwakku, formerly of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), announced his decision to support Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in the
upcoming Presidential Election by crossing over to the opposition and taking a seat among the Opposition members in Parliament yesterday (21).
Kodithuwakku acknowledged that he was elected as an MP representing the SLPP with the strong trust of the people during the last General Election. However, he stated that in the interest of the country’s future, he has decided to support Sajith Premadasa as the Presidential candidate. Before officially taking his seat with the opposition, Kodithuwakku expressed the following views:”The people elected me with great trust in the SLPP, believing that significant transformations would be made, upholding the law, preserving democracy, and securing a bright future for our children. However, our leaders have shattered those hopes, leading to the destruction of the aspirations of 6.9 million citizens.” He further added:”I see that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa is making efforts to fulfil those hopes. He has demonstrated an excellent vision for rebuilding the economy. For the sake of the country’s future, I am making a political decision today. It is my expectation to support Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming Presidential Election. The current administration, which is driving the country toward destruction, must be unconditionally defeated.”
