Leelavathi Asilin Dharmaratne (97) received her Master’s degree awarded by the Pali and Buddhist Postgraduate Institute of the University at the 143rd Convocation Ceremony of the Kelaniya University held at the BMICH on Wednesday.
She was awarded her master’s degree by the chief incumbent of Kelani Rajamahavihara, Kelani University Chancellor Senior Professor Ven. Kollupitiya Mahinda Sangharakkhita Thera.
Dharmaratne was born on 30th November 1927 in Millawa village, Waharana, and received her basic education from Millawa Girls’ College and in 1946, she passed the General Certificate Examination in both English and Sinhala mediums.
She worked as an English language teacher in 1955, before becoming a notary. She passed the notaries exam as the country’s first in 1962. Speaking to the media she said obtaining the Master’s degree was another milestone in her life.
