For the first time, the peoples’ aspirations and ours are one and the same

National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake invited people to give him a strong mandate to make a revolutionary change, adding that, a minority government cannot fulfil all the expectations of the general public.

Speaking at an election rally held recently in Piliyandala, the NPP Presidential Candidate said people of this country have been expecting a change over a long period of time and that, the right time for a change will dawn on September 21.

“There have been wide discussions for a change in the country, over the years. There is no point in talking about or dreaming of a change. For the first time in Sri Lanka, the opportunity has come for a change,” he said.

He further said that the strength of a government is not decided by the numbers in Parliament, but by the trust placed on the government by the people.

While assuring that their government will develop this country, Dissanayake said that the people of this country brought in various leaders, hoping they would make a change. But, they never did.

“The peoples’ aspirations were shattered for 76 years, as aspirations of the rulers and that of the people were never the same. For the first time, the peoples’ aspirations are the same as ours. People want to do away with fraud and corruption, we also want to do so. The peoples’ aspiration is to be rid of organised crime and the drug menace, which is what we also want to do,” he said.
