NPP has not refused MPs’ benefits till now – Harshana

According to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’s (JVP) manifesto, they claim they will eliminate MPs’ vehicle permits, pensions, and official quarters. However, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harshana Rajakaruna stated that there are no JVP MPs who have refused to avail these benefits.

During a press conference at the Samagi Jana Sandanaya office on Tuesday (27), Rajakaruna further emphasized that over 40 JVP MPs are taking the pension, and every JVP MP takes the vehicle permit. Although some MPs refused the vehicle permit, no JVP MP has refused these benefits.

However, they are waiting until September 21 to stop using these benefits.

He also mentioned that opposition leader Sajith Premadasa built Smart Classrooms, and donated school buses, and hospital equipment, and he did not claim to do those only after gaining power. He highlighted that Sajith Premadasa has become a leader who made an actual change in the system, while JVP is just providing jokes.

“SJB’s manifesto is filled with practical strategies that can develop the country,” he added.

Rajakaruna also said, “President Ranil Wickremesinghe claims that only he can deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). However, the SJB was the one who suggested working with the IMF. The SJB has informed IMF officials that the SJB government will collaborate with the IMF and any policies in the agreement that are harmful to the people will be revised after discussions under an SJB government. The IMF officials did not object to these statements. Therefore, we will work with the IMF in a manner that is friendly to the public.”
