SLPP will never allow the country to be divided – Namal
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), as a political force that loves the country, will not betray the motherland at any moment, SLPP Presidential Candidate MP Namal Rajapaksa said.
Pointing out that his party is a political force that loves the motherland, he said that they will not allow anyone to divide this country under any circumstance.
He made these remarks while participating in a Presidential Election rally held in Karandeniya, Galle, on Wednesday (28).
“We are moving into a new political culture. The politics of this country must be renewed. We need to get away from the political culture that changes its colours when an election comes, expecting favours and privileges. As a political force of our modern generation, we have to get used to the new political culture. During the Mahinda Rajapaksa era, rapid development was brought to this country. The greatest development in the history of Sri Lanka was during the era of Mahinda Rajapaksa. But unfortunately it stopped in 2015,” he added.
He further said that the SLPP wants to bring that development back to the country. The SLPP plans to make this country the most developed country in Asia. It is necessary to direct the children to the jobs that match their educational qualifications. It is a must to change the way that the youth go after politicians asking for jobs.
He further said that the system of transfers in public service should be independent and transparent. Also the recruitment process for the state service needs to be renewed. Instead of political interference in government recruitment, steps must be taken to recruit the people needed by the institutions. As of today, there has been no proper recruitment for the public sector for several years.
“We bring investments to this country by creating an enabling environment for investment. Today, even if the salaries of public servants are increased, those salaries are deducted by taxation. We have to move forward with a massive programme that can grow the entire economy. We protect the people by implementing our policies to build a developed country that the future generations of this country want. We have to protect local businesses. The economy of this country is run by businessmen who run businesses at the village level. The country cannot be developed by collecting unlimited taxes from them. The tax percentage should be converted to a bearable amount,” he added.
Speaking on the education system, he said that it should be changed to suit the world job market. In that arrangement, this country can achieve sustainable economic development.
“We saw what was done to the Hambantota Port. We saw how government institutions were sold out and what happened to the country’s economy. We will not allow any law to be passed that is not compatible with the culture of this country,” he noted.
While speaking, he invited those who have been away from the SLPP to again join the camp that defends the unity of the country aiming to build this country together.
