Among 39 Presidential hopefuls, there are 7 Parliamentarians, none of whom even stepped up in a crisis to lead our country in 2022

If a person who spread hatred through ‘Aragalaya’ took over this country, our country would end up in a situation worse than what happened in Bangladesh, said the Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga.

Addressing a public rally of the rally series ‘Puluwan Sri Lanka’ in Dompe on Sunday (01), he further stressed, “Among the 39 Presidential candidates, there are 7 Parliamentarians, but none of them even stepped forward to take over the country in 2022. Ranil Wickremesinghe has presented himself as a Presidential candidate after proving that he can take on a challenge by leading the country in 2022.”

“Similarly, he took over the post of Prime Minister after Ranasinghe Premadasa died, and he also helped strengthen the country when it went into a recession in 1999.”

“Anura Kumara Dissanayake served as the Agricultural Minister in our government and turned out to be one of the worst Ministers in history. During 2022 Aragalaya, it was Anura Kumara’s helmet gang that robbed houses, burned houses and started violence. A leader like that should never rule this country.”

“When the country was looking for a successive president, he brought the leaders of Aragalaya to the meeting held with the Prime Minister.”

“If it wasn’t for Ranil Wickremesinghe taking over the role of Presidency in 2022, Sri Lanka could have ended up in a bloodshed, a situation like in Bangladesh.”

“Although we received 6.9 million votes, we couldn’t effectively manage the economy or address the fertiliser issues because the government didn’t listen to us.”
