Robotics, AI training for 7,500 teachers

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted its consent to train 7,500 teachers in the area of robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said.

He was speaking at a media conference held yesterday at the Government Information Department to inform the decisions taken at this week’s Cabinet meeting. Minister Gunawardena further said that the digital transformation has been identified as a very important component by the national education policy framework, and for this purpose, collaboration between the public and private sectors has been encouraged for the use of artificial intelligence and new technologies. Accordingly, the pilot project has been successfully conducted as per a project proposal presented by Skills College of Technology (SCOT CAMPUS), which is an institution experienced in conducting practical courses such as information technology, mechatronics and robotics, the Minister added.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the joint proposal forwarded by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Education Minister Susil Premajayantha to train 7,500 teachers in selected schools covering all provinces in relation to the STEAM concept, including information technology, biotechnology, engineering technology, science and mathematics, in three stages at the Skills College of Technology (SCOT CAMPUS).
