CaFFE’s ‘Peaceful Poll’ campaign gets underway from Hambantota and Matara
The first two of a series of programmes by the Campaign for a Free and Fair Election [CaFFE] calling for a ‘Peaceful Poll’ were conducted in Hambantota and Matara on Sunday [08].
Addressing the political party organisers, religious leaders, former councillors, civil society members and other participants Manas Makeen the Executive Director of CaFFE said that of 880 election related complaints received by CaFFE as at midnight on Saturday [07] the majority were regarding to violation of election laws and that only a few incidents of election violence had been reported.
He added that there was an increase of fake news, hates speech and mudslinging on social media compared to last year.
The CaFFE boss said that the campaign for a ‘Peaceful Poll’ would be held in other districts within the next few days.
