Nine including seven cops injured by firecrackers at SJB rally in Kandy
Nine people including seven Police officers were admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained after the lighting of firecrackers by a group of supporters of the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya (SJS), during the public rally held yesterday (9), in front of the Kandy Central Market, in support of the SJS Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa.
The rally started around 3.00 pm. The supporters of Opposition Leader Premadasa, who were coming to the meeting ground, lit firecrackers at several places in Kandy city, not heeding Police orders to stop. Kandy National Hospital Director Dr. Iresha Fernando said that none of the injured were in serious condition.
She said they were given treatment at the emergency treatment unit at the hospital.
