Constitutional promises are not my forte. What I can promise is a brighter future for the youth of this country,” stated Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Namal Rajapaksa.

Addressing a rally in Batticaloa yesterday (10), Rajapaksa asserted that while many politicians make lofty constitutional promises to the Tamil and Muslim communities, he is committed to creating practical opportunities for the youth of these communities. He emphasized that his focus is on tangible actions rather than abstract legal frameworks.

Criticising the divisive tactics employed by some politicians, Rajapaksa pledged to promote unity and inclusivity. He rejected the notion of dividing people along ethnic or religious lines and expressed his commitment to uplifting all communities.

Rajapaksa further stressed, “I promise to develop the Eastern Province, particularly Batticaloa, by prioritising infrastructure projects such as the completion of the highway to Mattala.”

He also emphasised the importance of boosting the tourism industry in the region.

Rajapaksa vowed to protect the Tamil language while also promoting the Sinhala language. He advocated for the use of English as a common medium of instruction from the Ordinary Level Examination onwards.

“We have weathered difficult times, and during those times, divisions among our communities arose. These divisions tend to deepen during election periods. Some politicians exploit these divisions, sowing discord among ethnicities, religions, and even political parties. I am not one of those politicians who thrives on division. I say what I can do and I acknowledge what I cannot,” he added.
