JVP hiding undercover of compass; not abandoned bell and colour red –State Min. Dilum Amunugama
Investment Promotion State Minister Dilum Amunugama said that in order to escape to foreign countries, government registered criminals used to change their passport photos and obtain visas under different names and today the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is also following a similar programme by covering up the bell and is approaching the people with a compass.
He also said that even though the JVP has changed its colour and sign and is in hiding under cover of the compass, they have not abandoned the bell and the colour red. Dilum Amunugama, who commented further during a meeting held day before yesterday (10) at the E.L. Senanayake Library Auditorium in Kandy in support of the independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe, said: On the political stage, we have always said that Ranil Wickremesinghe has no backbone. If Ranil Wickremesinghe had not taken over the country when the country was in danger, our country would have suffered the same fate that Bangladesh is facing today. Not a single leader whom we thought had, had a backbone then, unfortunately had no backbone to take over the country, when it was in crisis. No matter how much we are followers of Mahinda Rajapaksa, we should support the leader who resurrected this country from difficult times.
There is nothing else we could do, even because Comrade Namal is contesting. This problem was caused by his uncle and look where it got us. We even had the power of government. Maithripala Sirisena was the President at the time of the Easter attack. We accept the fact that he did not physically place the bombs. But he should take responsibility for the collapse of the country’s security system, to the extent of co-ordinated bomb explosions, destroying life and the limbs of innocent people.
Likewise, we should be responsible for the economic crisis that occurred when Gotabaya Rajapaksa was in power. The fact that, this could not be laid on the shoulders of Namal Rajapaksa does not change what occurred.
We saw what Ranil did. There is no one else who could do this excepting him. When some boys went to break the gate of the Presidential palace, the then President cowardly boarded a ship and went to the middle of the ocean.
He didn’t need to abscond like that, running away without facing up to the situation; after all he was the Executive President with all the power in his hand at the time. It was wrong to leave the country when the country was in dire straits. It’s a dereliction of duty.
