Samagi Jana Sandhanaya (SJS) Presidential Candidate Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that government institutions will not be sold under a SJB government.
He emphasised that unlike the present government, the people’s power government formed by the SJB in the future will not sell public institutions under any circumstances.
Premadasa said this while addressing SJB trade union members from semi-government institutions in Colombo yesterday.

He stated that when a SJB government comes to power, it will establish a formal governance structure free of inefficiency, corruption and waste. Premadasa added that it is his hope to create an environment where all professionals can work with pride.
“Although the current government’s main objective is to privatise all profit-making public institutions, in a coalition government, profit-making public institutions will never be privatised. Although the current government is ready to privatise profit-making institutions such as Telecom and Litro Gas, it has been suppressed because of our voice in Parliament,” he said.
Premadasa said that it will be the policy of his government to protect the job security of all those employed in the public service as well as in the semi-public service.
He said he aims to increase the efficiency of all government institutions under a five-pronged programme. In this way, steps will be taken to gradually turn loss-making institutions into profit-making institutions. He said that the goal of his government is to create an efficient public service. He also stated that new plans will be made in such a way that employee safety and employee pride will be created.
Thousands of trade union members representing allied trade unions of parastatals joined the event. SJB trade union leaders such as Subash Karunaratne as well as political leaders like Dayasiri Jayasekara and Patali Champika Ranawaka were present.
