A group had disrupted a meeting organized by the Patriotic National Front (PNF) at the National Library Documentation Service Board Auditorium, Colombo 7 yesterday (12) afternoon.
When the national organiser of the Patriotic National Front, Attorney Nuwan Bellantudawa, was making some comments related to the JVP, this group had started shouting and behaving in an unruly manner.
The organisers of the event had informed those trying to disrupt the event that it was a peaceful conference and had

requested them to leave. However the group had not paid any attention to this and had begun shouting and attacking the organizers.
One person has been injured in this attack. The public conference was organized under the theme ‘the real challenges facing the country in the face of fake performances at the Presidential Election promoting the division of the country, destroying the Buddha Sasana, betraying the war heroes, promoting racism and making the country a battlefield for foreign forces’. When Nuwan Bellantudawa was giving examples of his opinion about the views of the NPP on Buddhism, a group of people who were present there behaved in an unruly manner.
The police have received information that a JVP group representing the NPP was involved in this incident. Meanwhile, the Kurunduwatta Police received complaints from the party that organized this public conference as well as from the party involved in the clash last night.
Police say that Ranasinghe Arachchige Dharmapala, a resident of Seewali Lane, Borella, and another group had protested the comments of Bellantudawa. The people who were attacked said that the Police should immediately arrest the attackers. About forty people participated in this conference and a group of scholars including Patriotic National Front Chairman, Senior Lecturer N. Jayathilaka were among them.
The injured has been admitted to the National Hospital.
