Political stage not right forum for discussion of religion–NPP Presidential candidate AKD

0 0

NPP Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) said that religion should not be discussed on the political stage.

But the ruling party has tried to bring the issue of religion to the stage again and again. He said that Buddhism or Christianity or Islam or Hinduism or any one of these will not be discussed on the platform of the NPP in order to collect votes or to criticize the other.

AKD, speaking at the public rally held at the Wewelpitiya stadium in Kandy recently said Religions have due respect to the extent that they are not brought to the political stage and are not mixed with politics. “The discourse on religion has commenced again on political platforms. We have made our position on religions very clear through practice and study”, he said.

“Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake had said that if the NPP comes to power, they will stop the Perahera in the city of Kandy.” He was in prison for seven or eight months, for having prepared false documents previously. We definitely will sue him.

It is wrong to bring such things to the political stage. “MP Charitha Herath had said in Kurunegala that NPP will stop the procession of the Athkanda Vihara. What are they doing? When no political criticism can be brought logically, the only thing left for the opposing side is to spread slander and false information. What is the latest discussion that has been brought up? When the election started, those persons said that we have only 3%. The story began from there. It was queried as to how 3%, could become 50%. They said it was a great miracle, an impossible task. Now those people know that the miracle is taking place.

Dissanayake said that these elements are creating a fear psychosis within society, citing that there will be riots on the 22nd if NPP wins the election. We need a change in the politics of our country. People are demanding a change in everything. What we have seen in history is that when a side wins, they would attack the loser, shoot the loser, and persecute the loser. We have experienced enough of that. When we change our country, there should be a change in these things as well. On September 22 the NPP after gaining victory will prove how to celebrate victory without hurting others.
