Two persons were killed yesterday (13) morning when a three-wheeler collided with a train at an unprotected railway crossing on Wijeratne Mawatha in Rathgama, Galle.
The express train plying from Maradana to Beliatta collided with the three-wheeler due to the three-wheeler driver attempting to recklessly cross the tracks which led to the fatal accident, Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said.
Three people had been travelling inside the three-wheeler at the time of the accident and one of them had fled after the collision, according to the Police.
One passenger travelling in the three-wheeler died on the spot from the crash while another passenger travelling in the vehicle who was critically wounded died after being admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.The two deceased aged 45 and 55 are residents of Dodanduwa area and the body of the victim who died on the spot has been handed over to the Boossa Railway Station. The Rathgama Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
