SJB rally turns tense after Punchinilame gets on stage

A tense situation arose at the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya (SJS) election rally held with the participation SJS Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa in Ratnapura on Saturday, after former Member of Parliament Susantha Punchinilame got on the stage.

Soon after Punchinilame got on stage, several SJB organisers from the area including Member of Parliament Hesha Withanage got down from the platform in protest. While this public rally was being held under the leadership of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, suddenly Punchinilame, a former SLPP Deputy Minister and a Member of Parliament from the Trincomalee District, got on the stage.

“At this time, a group of members including Hesha Withanage and Ratnapura District Constituency SJB organisers and former Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha members, got down from the stage in protest.

“Following the incident, Punchinilame got down from the platform and greeted the people and left.

Later, MP Hesha Withanage in his address expressed strong opposition to the entry of Punchinilame, and said that such people will not be accepted into the party.
