Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa emphasised that regardless of political challenges his party’s policies remain unwavering, not influenced by temporary benefits or privileges. He stressed that the SLPP follows a consistent political strategy and does not alter its principles based on external pressures or trends.

Speaking at a rally in Maharagama on Wednesday (11), Rajapaksa highlighted the importance of a well-structured campaign, stating, “Our election campaign operates constituency by constituency. We are conducting a five-week campaign, not one we prepared for two years in advance. Within these five weeks, we have to visit every constituency, meet supporters, and discuss our plans for the country. We are a party that rebuilt this nation, and we have a solid set of policies.”

He further elaborated, “We do not compromise our principles for temporary gains. We approach politics with a clear plan. We firmly believe in a technological revolution for the benefit of the future generations and the youth of this country. Addressing issues like long queues for goods by raising prices or reducing demand is not a real solution. We must strengthen the economy. For instance, using the police to reduce passport queues without addressing the core issue will not resolve the problem. Only by transforming the state administration through technology can we build a dignified public service and governance system for this country.”

Rajapaksa also pointed out the need to create jobs for the younger generation. “We plan to bring the unemployment rate to zero by creating two million jobs over the next decade. We must support entrepreneurs, shift from excessive tax policies on businesses to fair taxation systems, and foster an environment where people are willing to pay taxes. Constant changes to tax policies with every new government make it difficult for businesses to survive, halting production and growth.”

He also discussed the need for educational reform. “We must provide students the freedom to progress from high school to university. In addition, we need to develop a framework for vocational and technical training that helps parents and children plan for their future.”

Rajapaksa outlined the party’s long-term goals, including transforming Sri Lanka into a US$ 180 billion economy within the next decade. “We will protect both domestic and foreign investors, and by strengthening local businesses, we can create new job opportunities. A robust domestic business sector will attract foreign investors. We must also focus on developing tourism by becoming a service hub, with airports and ports catering to 80 million passengers within the next five years.”

He reaffirmed that the SLPP’s policies remain unchanged by external influences, and invited everyone to join in the effort to ensure the party’s victory and transform Sri Lanka into a developed nation.
