Container carriers to reduce transport cost by 4%

0 7

The Container Carrier Owners’ Association announced steps to reduce container transportation fees by 4%, in line with the recent reduction in fuel prices.

The Association stated that this decision was implemented starting from October 1.

President of the association Sanath Manjula said that to pass on this relief to the public, Customs officers must take action to mitigate the significant delays in import and export clearance processes. He further explained that when containers are held within port premises for more than three days due to delays in clearance, they become subject to demurrage fees from the date of landing. Therefore, he highlighted the importance of addressing these delays to ensure the benefits of reduced fuel prices reach the public.
