Hirunika steps down from role in ‘Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya’
Former MP Hirunika Premachandra stated that she stepped down from the post of national organiser of the ‘Samagi Vanitha Balawegaya’, the women’s organisation of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
Speaking at a press briefing, she said that she will remain an active member of the party and will contest the forthcoming General Election despite stepping down from the role.
“I have arranged for my resignation letter to be delivered to SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara,” she said.
Premachandra also said, “We launched the ‘Samagi Vanitha Balavegaya’ in 2020, and it has been a force very close to my heart. Through this movement, we have provided immense service to the country and especially to the women of our nation. Notably, during the era of queues in the country, it was the women from our movement who, for the first time, stood fearlessly in front of Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence, protesting against him.”
