Rajarata Undergrads study flood disaster situation in Matara District

Students of Rajarata University, studying for the Environmental Management Degree, engaged in a field trip to study the flood disaster situation in the Matara District.

Under this field study trip, flood hazard in Matara District and its spread, its intensity, scientific factors affecting flood, structural construction, physical and human factors etc. were primarily focused on.

Accordingly, before entering the field, the basic awareness related to Disaster Management and flood hazard in Matara District was conducted by the Assistant Director of Matara District Disaster Management Coordinating Unit Lt. Col. Ariyawansa Kandambi.

After that, field studies and awareness activities were carried out at Thotamuna River Estuary, Nilwala Salt Barrier, BR 5 – Rock Embankment, Polhena Beach.

65 Undergraduates, including Dr. J.M.S.B. Jayasundara, Dr. M.M.S.A. Marasinghe, Dr. W.M.S.B. Vanninayake of Rajarata University participated in this event.

This field study trip was conducted under the coordination and guidance of Matara District Disaster Management Unit.
