Colombo East Base Hospital Celebrates World Patient Safety Week 2024
Colombo East Base Hospital proudly observed World Patient Safety Week from September 8 to 14, 2024, with a series of impactful events aimed at enhancing patient safety and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
The week kicked off with a best practices and Kaizen initiatives exhibition on September 9, showcasing innovative strategies employed by hospital staff to improve care quality. This event set the tone for a week of learning and collaboration.
On September 11 and 12, esteemed guest lecturers shared their expertise on various patient safety topics, engaging all categories of staff in discussions that highlighted the importance of safe practices in healthcare.
The culmination of the week occurred on September 14, coinciding with World Patient Safety Day. The celebration welcomed distinguished guests, including the Deputy Director from the Directorate of Health and Quality, along with the Directors and staff from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases. Their participation underscored the collaborative effort to enhance patient safety across the healthcare sector.
A quiz competition tested staff knowledge on this year’s theme, “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety.” Participants included medical officers, nursing officers, paramedics, and healthcare assistants, promoting teamwork and awareness among all hospital personnel.
Additionally, a short film titled “Husma,” directed by Mr. Kithsara C. Gunasekara and featuring contributions from hospital staff, was screened, further emphasizing the week’s themes.
The event was organized by the Quality Management Unit of Colombo East Base Hospital under the guidance of the Director and Deputy Director. The hospital recognized the invaluable contributions of all staff categories in improving quality and patient safety, underscoring a collective commitment to excellence in healthcare.
