Colombo District candidate of the New Democratic Front Ranil Willaddarage emphasised the importance of managing the country’s economy effectively. He stated that failure to do so would lead to hardships for both the public and the business community.
Willaddarage expressed these views while participating in a rally held in Kesbewa.
He said, “Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe stabilised the economy and strengthened economic activities following the economic crisis. The economic reforms implemented have stabilised the economy, and the benefits will be felt by the people in the coming months. The current government must continue these economic reforms to maintain a stable economy. Otherwise, there is a risk of the economy collapsing again. Former President Wickremesinghe created a stable economy and an environment where businesses could thrive. Our dream as young people is to see our country become number one in the world under a visionary leader.
“As an entrepreneur, I introduced a business model based on social harmony and did something for the people of this country. With that inspiration, I entered politics. Even in politics, we must move forward honestly. Parliament should be represented by honest, skilled, and experienced individuals. People should enter politics with capability and experience. It is our responsibility to inspire young men and women. Otherwise, the country will collapse again. A strong team with experience and expertise is contesting this election under the Gas Cylinder symbol.
“Ranil Wickremesinghe can be shown as a leader who lifted a bankrupt economy within two years. We must acknowledge this without any bias. The guidance of such mature leaders is still needed for our country. Managing a country’s income and expenditure is crucial. The country collapsed because expenditure exceeded income. People had to endure long queues. The past two years provided an opportunity to stabilise the country. When we run a business, we work with our team. It is very difficult to rebuild a country that has collapsed by working with a team that is not your own. However, Ranil Wickremesinghe accomplished this properly. The current government faces the challenge of managing income and expenditure, as well as quickly addressing issues such as reducing fuel prices, controlling the prices of essential goods, and increasing public sector salaries.”
However, Willaddarage further stated, the government is still not moving in the direction that the people expect.
