Army refutes several Social Media content creators over ‘false’ videos
Sri Lanka Army has refuted videos circulated on social media related to the relocation of troops.
Issuing a statement, the Army said that “in recent days, several irresponsible social media content creators have released videos containing false information about the Sri Lanka Army, with the intention of tarnishing the Army’s reputation, undermining public trust, and inciting animosity towards the Army.”
These videos, produced without proper verification of the misleading information provided by a few individuals in the Army, who have no prospects for career progression, were shared solely to gain publicity through their social media accounts.
The videos claim that the relocation of troops from certain camps was a hasty decision. However, this is inaccurate. These relocations are part of a long-term strategic plan under the Army’s resizing and restructuring measures. Additionally, all Army activities are carried out under the supervision of the Commander of the Army, the Minister of Defence, and the Ministry of Defence, adhering to their directives and guidance.
Such baseless actions by a few irresponsible individuals, acting against media ethics, can be seen as an unsuccessful attempt to damage the long-standing cordial relationship between the Army and the public. Furthermore, it could potentially pose a future threat to national security if these misleading narratives are allowed to spread unchecked.
The Army strongly condemns these false and harmful statements and urges the public not to be misled by such misinformation but to maintain their unwavering trust in the Army. The Army remains steadfast in its commitment to national security and loyalty to the government and country.
