Poppy Day commemorated at Temple Trees

Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Vice Secretary Manthri Coswatte pinned a poppy on Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday (30), marking the Armed Forces’ Poppy Day commemoration organized annually by the Association.

The donations towards Poppy Day will be allocated for the welfare of retired and disabled officers of the Armed Forces. Poppy Day is held to commemorate the military personnel who died in the First and Second World Wars as well as in the internal conflicts in Sri Lanka, and this commemoration is held in Sri Lanka on a Sunday around November 11.

Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association President Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya requested the public to contribute towards the welfare of the retired and disabled military personnel.

Prime Minister’s Secretary Pradeep Saputhanthri, Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association President Colonel Ajith Siyambalapitiya, Vice President Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Treasurer Major Chilton de Silva, Member of Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Major Sanjith Wijeratne, and Member of the Poppy Committee Amitha Rohana participated in this event.
