IMF Asia Pacific Department Director Dr.Krishna Srinivasan yesterday said the new Sri Lankan government has re-affirmed its commitment to the IMF programme in-terms of achieving fiscal and debt targets.
He said that an IMF delegation will soon be in Colombo to discuss the third review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme.
“After the new government came into office; we had a mission in Sri Lanka, where we held productive discussions with the President and his team. It is clear that Sri Lanka has made significant progress under the programme, and these gains must be safeguarded.
He added that measures need to be taken to build on the successes achieved so far.
“A Sri Lankan team comprising Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena and Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe was in Washington to continue discussions on the next review and negotiations are ongoing,” he said.
The IMF Asia Pacific Director said that their mission is to return to Sri Lanka to continue these negotiations for the next third tranche review.
