A ten-member expert committee have been appointed to look into injustices to any beneficiaries of the ‘Aswesuma’ social benefit programme.
The committee will look into those who received ‘Samurdhi’ beneficiaries but have been excluded from ‘Aswesuma’, although they are eligible for benefits under the latter.
Buddha Sasana, Religious, Cultural Affairs, Social Integration, Social Security and Mass Media Ministry Secretary Ranjith Ariyaratne has appointed the committee on the instructions of the Minister in Charge Vijitha Herath.
The committee has been tasked with preparing a report consisting details on a mechanism to identify those who received ‘Samurdhi’ beneficiaries but have been excluded from ‘Aswesuma’, although they are eligible for benefits, reasons for the above and preparing a list of criteria to choose ‘Samurdhi’ beneficiaries eligible for ‘Aswesuma’ benefits. The committee has been instructed to submit the report before December 15, the Government Information Department said.
