Imprisoning the Rajapaksas is alright if it solves the people’s problems – Namal Rajapaksa
National Organiser of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Namal Rajapaksa stated, “If imprisoning the Rajapaksas and hunting them down can solve the problems of the people, bring good prices for pepper, tea, and cinnamon, then it doesn’t matter if we are jailed.”
Rajapaksa made these remark during a public rally held on Friday (1) at the residence of Kalawana SLPP Organiser and former Deputy Chairman of the Kalawana Pradeshiya Sabha, Priyantha Athukorala, to support Athukorala’s Parliamentary campaign.
Expressing further, Namal Rajapaksa said, “As a Party, we have faced challenges. In the past, Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government inherited a massive debt burden taken during the Yahapalana government. The responsibility of not adding even a single megawatt to the power grid during that government, also fell on Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration. The Easter attacks had severely impacted the Tourism industry and National security, and those burdens were placed on Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government. On top of that, the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. Amidst all these challenges, a movement was created, centering on the people’s issues. Some genuine individuals took to the streets, as well as others with political motives.”
