Defeated parties creating absurd stories about NPP – Tilvin
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva yesterday said that the defeated former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is making some absurd comments and the SJB led by Sajith Premadasa is spreading canards targeting the NPP.
However, he said people will not be fooled by such cheap tactics and will give an overwhelming mandate to the NPP at the upcoming General Election. He further said that it is necessary to defeat the parties and political representatives who mislead the people by using religion and racism targeting the General Election.
Silva said this while participating in the press conference held at the JVP Headquarters in Pelawatte, Battaramulla, yesterday.
He added that the NPP will gain a two-thirds majority or number close to it or more than the simple majority at the upcoming General Election. He also mentioned that no party needs a five-sixths majority.
“Certain political parties who lost in the last Presidential Election are still in a frenzy. Those political groups never thought that such a fate would befall them.
They are currently making false propaganda against the NPP. We must defeat the tactics followed by opposition parties which try to mislead the people. In the last Presidential Election, all the members of Pohottuwa, Samagi Jana Balawegaya and Ranil Wickremesinghe’s group requested the people to vote against our party and worked to socialise a huge false propaganda against the NPP. All of them have now been proven to be blatant lies.
“The groups against us tried to use racism and religion against us. On the platforms of Samagi Jana Balawegaya and former President Wickremesinghe, it was declared that this country will become a lake of blood if the NPP Presidential candidate wins. They said that the NPP led government will not allow the people to practice their religions. They also alleged that Buddhist temples will be destroyed. They also said that the NPP government will not even allow Buddhist processions. They said that a situation like Cambodia will arise in our country too. They created a fear among the people that Buddhism would disappear. They also said we do not allow people to practise Islam. Some of our voice cuts were separated into pieces and distorted ideas were socialised. These are conspiracies. These show the political bankruptcy of the parties opposing us.
“But after the victory of Anura Kumara Dissanayake, there was no conflict in the country. It is a record. Various problems arose in the previous Presidential Elections. Our passion is not to hurt others but to win the other. After Anura became President, he went to meet the Malwathu and Asgiriya Chief Prelates. He took blessings from them.
“Our opponents are already spreading lies about us targeting the General Election. Now they alleged that the day after November 14, is a Poya day and curfew will be imposed on that day. Spreading falsehoods about religions should be condemned.
“Former President Ranil Wickremasinghe was defeated in the recent Presidential Election. He requested the people to continue keep him because he saved the country. But the people defeated him. He asked us to learn the Constitution. We think it is dangerous to learn the Constitution from him because he has violated the Constitution.”
