Govt has not been able to fulfil its promises – Sajith
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa stated that the government, led by the President, has not been able to fulfil their promises.
He was speaking at a public meeting in Avissawella.
Further elaborating, he said, “The government of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), led by the President, is now a source of amusement for the whole country. A country cannot run on humour. Despite claims on election platforms that passport queues would end, these queues remain the same today. While they proposed solutions via SMS and WhatsApp, nothing has changed. Since coming to power, this government has only increased passport queues rather than resolving them. These issues require real solutions.
“Even though they made grand promises on platforms to reduce taxes, abandon the price formula, and bring funds from Uganda, they eventually ended up submitting to the IMF. The JVP-led government, headed by the President, has now become a mere implementer of the fuel price formula. Instead of reducing fuel prices for the general public, they have only reduced fuel prices used by the elite. Those who once claimed that fuel prices were determined by fraud, corruption, and theft have now become defenders of the price formula.”
Premadasa further said that there was no need for Parliamentary approval to reduce fuel prices, electricity bills, or food costs. “This is an easy task for an Executive President. Therefore, I urge that the so-called funds claimed to be in Uganda should be brought back to our country to provide relief to the suffering people. There is no escaping these issues, and the people expect solutions,” he said.
