SJB has viable plan for strong economic growth for next nine years – Sajith
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Samagi Jana Sandhanaya leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said his party had a viable plan to propagate strong economic growth in the country over the next nine years.
The SJB plan he said would enhance foreign reserves, increase export revenue, and strengthen sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, IT, manufacturing, and tea production.
He was speaking at an SJB election rally in Ratnapura to support the candidates contesting from the party at Thursday’s Parliamentary Election.
The SJB plan to propel the economy he said would make it feasible for Sri Lanka to begin repaying its debt by 2033.
He criticised the previous administration under former President Ranil Wickremesinghe for subordinating Sri Lanka to the IMF’s stringent conditions and mismanagement of public funds.
Premadasa pledged to renegotiate Sri Lanka’s agreement with the IMF under an SJB government.
He emphasised that his party presented a development-focused policy framework during the Presidential Election, aimed at strengthening and uplifting the nation and its people.
He noted that while a portion of the country accepted these policies, another section cast their vote for the National People’s Power (NPP), contributing to its victory.
Premadasa criticised the current administration under President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, alleging that the promises made to the public have now been forgotten.
He accused the NPP government of abandoning their commitments to serve the people and failing to honour the pledges they made to represent the needs of the less privileged and the general public.
Looking ahead to the upcoming General Election, Premadasa expressed optimism that the public would understand the truth and grant the SJB a majority in Parliament, enabling the formation of an SJB-led government. He affirmed that, if elected, they would diligently fulfil the programme they presented during the Presidential Election.
