Defence Ministry begins audit on firearms issued to civilians

Audits have been launched regarding the firearms and ammunition that had been issued to civilians which had been recalled by the Defence Ministry recently.

A special team has been appointed by the Defence Ministry to conduct the audits effective yesterday (25) on the licensed firearms and ammunition that had been issued to civilians for their personal security.

The Defence Ministry stated that steps will be taken to return the firearms to the identified civilians after the conclusion of the audit.

In the meantime, the hearing of the appeals directed by the persons who have obtained the firearms and ammunition regarding their handover is also going on presently.

Accordingly, the Defence Ministry stated that it is considering around 50 such appeals submitted to them on a daily basis.

The Defence Ministry further stated that dates have been given to those who have submitted appeals on handing over their firearms in order to consider them.
